6 Christmas Activities for Families That Love the Outdoors

Posted by Jasmine Butler

Don’t let the cold air stop you this December with outdoor activities perfect for the whole family, specially dedicated to get everyone in the festive spirit.

Pick your own Christmas Tree

The first activity is a traditional favourite for many. Perfect for family bonding and making memories, get out in the fresh air and visit a Christmas tree farm! A great way for everyone to try and find their perfect unique tree, and besides some Christmas tree farms also offer hot drinks to keep you warm and toasty.

Outdoor Wreath Making

Get arty this Christmas and create festive wreaths that can be placed on display! Start outside for exploring and collecting materials, this can include anything from sticks, pine needles, pinecones, or even colourful holly berries and autumn leaves. Once materials are collected, head home or sit in the garden and arrange everything around a wreath structure or cardboard cut-out. When ready use adhesive to keep everything together and finish off with a lovely bow.

Christmas Lights Walk

A simple but lovely evening outdoors that the whole family can enjoy. Choose one night close to Christmas and bundle up warm to go see the local lights. Take a walk around your local neighbourhood or drive further afield for more option. Even better, take fluffy blankets and travel cups filled with hot chocolate and marshmallows for the ultimate cosy experience after finding the house with the best lights!

Festive Campfire

When the weather is not raining here in the UK, gather some firewood and those you love and spend some time outside together around a fire. Take this opportunity to star gaze, share cups of hot chocolate and make the ultimate s’more. Complete the setting with some cheesy Christmas hits for a true festive feeling. Make sure you pack your Red Original Insulated Cup to keep your hot chocolate nice and toasty!

Candy Cane Hunt

Similar to a scavenger hunt, but for candy canes only! Low cost and simple to do but guaranteed fun outdoors. Buy a box of candy canes and hide them around the garden. Get creative with hiding them, even hang some from low tree branches or bushes. Everyone will have fun trying to find them all. For the most competitive why not add in small festive themed prizes for the most found!

Family Festive Walk

Another great family tradition is to go on a festive walk. Although some may want to stay inside and cosy up on the sofa, winter is a great time for getting outdoors as you can see so many things you can’t in other seasons. Let the kids wear their Christmas jammies or some silly Santa hats and take a walk to your local park, forest, or beach, just remember to wrap up warm!
