So far I have used this cooler once, on a fishing trip with the hope of keeping my catch cool. Sadly I ended up not catching anything big enough to bring home, but I did use it to store my food for the day. I put a 2kg bag of ice in it the night before, at around 9pm. I then topped it up with another 1kg bag around 11 hours later the following morning, as a small amount of the original bag had melted which I’d expected, given there was no food inside and I hadn’t pre-cooled the bag in the freezer. I then half filled it with some food a few hours later. I ate nearly all of this food by the evening. I then returned home, emptied the rest of the food and left the remaining ice in there until after 9pm the following night. There was still a little unmelted ice, mostly water though but it was icy cold and still perfectly capable of keeping food cold. I imagine if I’d pre-chilled the cooler, filled it with the whole 3kg to start with, maybe with an additional ice block and filled with food from the beginning I would’ve gotten considerably more hours out of it. Given that I also opened and closed it many times throughout the day without a lot of care, I am very impressed to have gotten 48 hours of refrigeration from this bag which is way more than enough for my needs. So these tales of several days of ice are not myths after all. I also adapted it to fit my bike by slotting the aluminium track from an Arkel pannier bag through the tie-down loops. It is now a high performance cool…
