A Creative Collaboration Born by the Water

Earlier this year, Red Equipment partnered with Arts University Plymouth to launch a live design brief celebrating creativity, innovation, and our shared connection to the coast.

We invited students from the Ocean City of Plymouth - right here in Red’s home county of Devon - to design a repeater print inspired by our creative platform: Life’s Better by the Water.

The result? A limited-edition EVO Pro Change Robe that fuses Red’s world-class technical design with emerging creative talent, capturing the movement, energy, and freedom of life spent by the water.

This collaboration brought together two Devon institutions - one rooted in craftsmanship and outdoor innovation, the other in artistry and design excellence - to create something truly unique.

Inspired by the Coast

The Tidal Textures print captures the movement, rhythm, and energy of Britain’s coastlines. Designed by BA (Hons) Textile Design student Kelsey Vanderplank, the layered pattern reflects the ever-changing textures of sand, tide, and surf.

The Winning Designer

Final year BA (Hons) Textile Design student, Kelsey Vanderplank, was selected as the overall winner. Her distinctive design perfectly met the brief, combining coastal inspiration with expressive, layered patterns that capture the essence of the sea.

“Growing up in Cornwall. I’ve always been inspired by the textures created by the water on beaches. The way the waves shape the sand, leaving behind ripples and patterns has always fascinated me. I’ve used these water textures as the basis for my design, layering them to reflect the fluid, everchanging nature of the sea. The movement of the water has influenced the way I approach texture and layering, capturing the essence of the beach and its natural rhythms.”
