6 Of The Best Spots For Paddle Boarding In Toronto

Posted by Luke Green

There’s no denying that Toronto is a spectacular city, and there’s no better way to explore this beautiful metropolis than by paddle boarding. In spite of its urban credentials, there are plenty of amazing spots in Toronto to launch your SUP from and access the surrounding waterways. There are so many incredible places that we enjoy paddle boarding in Toronto, however we’ve managed to narrow down just a few of our favourite spots. These include:

Kew Balmy Beach

There are plenty of spots to launch your SUP along the gorgeous shoreline of Kew Balmy Beach, and it’s the perfect place for both beginners and experienced paddle boarders. Break walls help to create pockets of calmer water, where you can practice your paddling skills safely without having to battle the tide too much. Kew Balmy Beach is one of the best places to catch the sunrise, which is why it’s one of our go-to spots for an early morning paddle.

Toronto Islands

We couldn’t talk about paddle boarding in Toronto without mentioning the Toronto Islands. There are lots of different routes for paddling in and around the Toronto Islands, with plenty of interesting scenery to take in along the way, from stunning urban structures to gorgeous wildlife. Toronto harbour is a really fun spot for a paddle however it can get very busy and choppy with the amount of boat traffic and so we’d recommend this area for paddlers with a little more experience.

Cherry Beach

Cherry Beach is a great spot to launch from if you want to paddle a route through to the Toronto Islands, however it’s also a gorgeous SUPing location in its own right. Cherry Beach is located just minutes from downtown Toronto and there are lots of beginner friendly spots to launch from, making it one of the best places to go paddle boarding in Toronto if you’re SUPing for the first time

Marilyn Bell Park

Another of our favourite places for paddle boarding in Toronto has to be Marilyn Bell Park. The area in front of Marilyn Bell Park is protected by a break wall, creating calm waters for practicing your paddling skills, particularly race sprints. This is a popular spot for boaters and rowers so just be mindful of these, however if you’re up for a longer adventure you can paddle your way round to the iconic Ontario Place.

Scarborough Bluffs

Some of the most spectacular scenery you can encounter when paddle boarding in Toronto is the Scarborough Bluffs. The towering white cliffs were formed by wind and water erosion from Lake Ontario thousands of years ago, and there’s no better way to experience them than from the water. Bluffers Park is a great place to launch from and there’s a gorgeous sandy beach to enjoy a picnic from afterwards. Make sure to take our attachable waterproof dry pouch with you so you can bring your camera or phone to snap a few pictures of the stunning cliffs along the way.

Sunnyside Beach

Discover the serene Humble River that flows out to Lake Ontario whilst keeping an eye out for some spectacular wildlife. You can paddle past the stunning Humber Bay Arch Bridge whilst escaping the hustle and bustle of the city. Only a short distance from the centre of Toronto, Sunnyside Beach is easy to access yet feels like a natural paradise. That’s why it’s definitely one of our best places to go paddle boarding in Toronto.
