It’s no secret that Red Original changing robes are the most technologically advanced changing robes on the market. Our Pro Change Robe EVO range (both the originals and their recent Alter Evos) boasts seriously impressive waterproofing, cutting-edge features and a look that no other can compare with.
While we have undoubtedly constructed these robes to last, proper care, both at home and outdoors, will go a long way towards caring for your kit and keeping it performing at its best for the many years to come. The way you store your Red Original changing robe is particularly important and we have put together these handy tips for when it's finally time to pause your adventure and stow away yours.
Most of the time, you’ll be caring for your Red Original changing robe on the go. After all, the beauty of our leading and latest Pro Change Robe EVOs is that they are tough but lightweight so you can go wild and sling yours on and off post-swim, post-paddle, or pre-muddy dog walk. However, your changing robe can still benefit from a bit of care when on the go and we’ve compiled a few important tips to make sure you are storing yours correctly.
Rinse Off Dirt And Debris - If your changing robe is visually dirty after a day of adventure, then it’s well worth rinsing it off before you put it away to leave. A quick shake and a splash of water (from a bottle or a tap - not the sea or a salty source!) will go a long way towards saving you time and effort cleaning it up later on after, and help you keep your robe clean and fresh for longer.
Dry Before You Pack It Up - After you finish using your changing robe, dry it off as much as possible before putting it away. Shake off excess water or pat dry with a towel to remove moisture and hang it in the open air for a while if you can. The same advice also applies if you need to give your EVO robe a bit of a rinse as in the step above. Clean as appropriate, then allow to dry before doing anything else.
Use A Storage Bag - Once your changing robe is dry and it’s time to store it on the move, grab one of our handy, purpose-made changing robe stash bags. These awesome bags use durable Ripstop fabric and a waterproof roll-top closure design to keep your EVO robe dry and protected wherever your adventure takes you next. The convenient design also helps you pack your robe neatly and tightly, saving you space when stowed away with the rest of your kit in a waterproof kit bag.
When you’re putting your feet up on rest days or really wet days, your Red Original changing robe might finally get a few hours of downtime! Our changing robes should always be stored in an appropriate place at home - don’t just throw it on a hook or in a cupboard without consideration, and do consider the last time you gave it a bit of a deeper clean before you put it away. We suggest:
Wash Your Changing Robe Regularly - It's a good idea to wash your robe thoroughly after a few uses or when it becomes dirty. Our Red Original changing robe selection is machine-washable at 30°C, which makes it very convenient to clean them after they become dirty. Make sure that all zippers are fastened before putting yours in the washing machine, and re-waterproof after every five washes.
Ensure That It Is Thoroughly Dry - Forgive us for repeating ourselves, but this step really is important when it comes to storing your changing robe - even when you’re at home! At home, you’ll have the luxury of a few more options when it comes to getting your Pro Change Robe EVO dried off. You can tumble dry it on low settings if you wish, but if you prefer to air dry it, find a well-ventilated space to hang it up. Turn it inside out while drying to expose the inner lining to the air and prevent the waterproof shell from preventing the rest of the robe from drying. Do not pack your changing robe away while it is still damp, as this can lead to nasty smells or even mould growth.
Store In A Cool, Dry Place - Choosing the right changing robe storage location is super important and we recommend storing your robe in a cool, dry place, such as a closet or bag. Avoid leaving it in direct sunlight for too long, as this can cause colour fading and weaken the fabric, leading to rips and tears.
Hang, Don’t Fold - Lastly, make sure that you hang rather than fold your changing robe if you can. Hanging prevents wrinkles from emerging and, most importantly, preserves the robe’s shape. For waterproofed clothing such as our changing robes, this helps keep the waterproof membrane intact and uncreased.
We hope that these key Red Original changing robe care and storage tips have been useful. If you have any questions about the range of changing robes that we offer at Red, then don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team of experts who will be happy to help you out.
