A good tow float should help you feel more confident in open water, while a good backpack should make it comfortable to carry everything to and from the shore. The 2-in-1 Reversible Tow Float Backpack is the best of both worlds – and here’s how to use it…
Our 2-in-1 Reversible Tow Float Backpack is designed to make swim days simpler, from start to finish. Use it as a waterproof backpack to carry your kit to the water, then reverse it into a high-vis tow float dry bag while you swim. After your session, turn it back again to carry wet gear home.
Here’s how to use it properly – from packing at home, to reversing into swim mode, to drying it out after your swim.
Before your swim, use the 2-in-1 Reversible Tow Float Backpack as a comfortable 28L waterproof backpack.
This gives you space for the kit you need before, during and after your session: a towel, spare layers, footwear, snacks, water bottle, phone, keys and your adventure-swim essentials.
When you reach the water, unpack for the swim and reverse the backpack into tow-float mode.
The pull-through design makes this straightforward:
Once configured, the bag becomes a high-vis tow float dry bag with around 19L of dry storage for your swim essentials.
As with any tow float dry bag, don’t overpack it. The bag needs enough room to roll down securely once it has been reversed into tow-float mode. Overloading can make the closure harder to seal and may affect how neatly the float tows behind you.
For valuables such as your phone, keys or wallet, we recommend using a secondary dry bag inside the main dry compartment. It’s a simple extra precaution that gives your most important items another layer of protection.
Before getting in, take a moment to check everything is set up correctly.
Make sure the roll-top closure of your tow float backpack is tightly rolled and securely clipped. Check both inflation valves are fully tightened. Confirm the waistband is properly fastened and adjusted to fit comfortably around your body.
The adjustable tow tether should allow the float to sit behind you without interfering with your kick. Too short, and it may nudge your legs. Too long, and it can feel less controlled. Adjust it until the float follows smoothly behind you.
The high-vis tow-float side is designed to help you stay visible in open water, with bright colouring, reflective details and attachment points for lights or accessories. This can be especially useful in low light, busier water or swim spots shared with other water users.
The internal dry compartment is ideal for essentials you need with you during the swim: clothing, footwear, towel, snacks, keys, phone and other small items.
The external mesh stash pocket is there for items that can get wet and need to be easy to reach, such as gels or swim snacks. Keep anything that must stay dry inside the main compartment, ideally inside a secondary dry bag too.
Although the tow float has generous storage, it is not designed for heavy loads in the water. Keep your packed weight sensible, avoid sharp objects, and don’t use it to carry anything that could affect how safely or comfortably it tows behind you.
A tow float is a useful part of your open-water swimming equipment, but it does not replace safe swim planning.
The 2-in-1 Reversible Tow Float Backpack is not a lifesaving device and should only be used by competent swimmers. Do not lean on it as a resting aid to prolong your swim, as this can make you less visible in the water. If you feel tired, cold or unsure, head back in.
Before any open-water swim, check the conditions, understand the entry and exit points, and think carefully about wind, tides, currents, water temperature and other water users. Swim with others where possible, let someone know your plan, and stay within your ability.
Used properly, the 2-in-1 Reversible Tow Float Backpack helps you stay more visible and keeps essentials with you – but careful planning and good judgement are still your keys to safety in the water.
Once you’re out of the water, deflate both chambers and open the roll-top closure.
Remove your dry items first, then reach in and grab the pull-through loop to reverse the tow float back into backpack mode. You can then use it to carry wet swimwear, towel, layers and accessories away from the water.
This is where the dual-purpose design really comes into its own: no extra bag, no abandoned kit on the shore, and no awkward bundle of soggy gear to carry home under your arm.
A little care will help your 2-in-1 Reversible Tow Float Backpack last longer.
After swimming, especially in salt water, rinse the high-vis yellow side with fresh water when possible. Wipe the blue backpack side clean if necessary, and hand wash in cool or warm soapy water if it gets particularly dirty.
Let it dry fully before storing, and keep away from direct sunlight, sharp objects and excessive heat. Do not dry clean or bleach.
The product is built from durable, PVC-free TPU with welded seams, but like all open-water swimming accessories, it will perform best when looked after properly between sessions.
From wild swims to point-to-point routes, swimrun sessions and adventure swimming, the 2-in-1 Reversible Tow Float Backpack is built to make open-water logistics easier.
Carry your kit to the water, reverse it into a high-vis tow float dry bag, keep essentials with you while you swim, then switch back to backpack mode for the walk home.
One piece of kit, two important uses – a simpler way to move from door to shore to swim and back again.
