What Is The Best Group Paddle Board?

You don’t need to be a pro to know that paddle boarding is a whole lot more fun when you’re doing it as part of a group, but if you’re looking to put a unique twist on your group SUP sessions, then here’s something for you. A group paddle board offers you a whole new way to experience stand-up paddle boarding with your friends or family. These boards are specifically designed to accommodate multiple riders, which makes them fantastic for all sorts of different activities.

We offer two different types of multi-person paddle board at Red Paddle Co, each with its own features that make them suited to different situations. Let’s take a deep dive into these boards to see which of them is best suited to you.

17'0" XL MSL Inflatable Group Paddle Board

Coming in at a very impressive 17’ long and 60” wide, the XL MSL board can comfortably fit up to a whopping eight paddlers. That makes it phenomenally useful when you’re heading out in larger groups. While you may think that the enhanced size will make it heavy, it’s actually remarkably light thanks to the MSL (Monocoque Structural Laminate) material we’ve used in its design. This same material also makes it very durable.

Pros:

  • Eight-person capacity makes it excellently suited for large groups.
  • Lightweight yet durable thanks to its MSL material.
  • Plenty of room and tie-down points for your gear.

Cons:

  • Probably too big for smaller groups to make use of.
  • The more expensive of the two options available.

15'0" Tandem MSL Inflatable Group Paddle Board

If you’re after something more suited to a pair of paddlers, then you can’t do better than the Tandem MSL group paddle board. Coming in at 723 litres (L) of volume, you can trust that the Tandem multi-person paddle board will remain extremely stable while you’re on it, even if you’re packing a lot of gear. It makes use of a six-point cargo system and plenty of additional anchor points to keep gear properly secure while you’re out on the water. It makes use of the same MSL material as the XL board, so it has the same lightweight yet durable construction as well.

Pros:

  • Designed for two people, making it ideal for couples or pairs of friends heading out on a SUP trip.
  • Hard-wearing and durable yet also lightweight because of the MSL material.
  • Plenty of storage capacity thanks to its six-point system and anchor points.

Cons:

  • Doesn’t accommodate large groups of people.
  • Stability is impressive, but not as much as the XL board’s.

So ultimately, the best multi-person stand-up paddle board comes down to how many people you need it for. Both boards are exceptionally good at what they do, so once you know what size you need, you can’t go wrong.
